"And He said to them all, if any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me".
"For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it".
"For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? [thrown into the fires of hell]
In other words:
Jesus challenged to His disciples was faithfulness, denial of self, and daily sacrifices. If one lives merely for this life, the following life will be lost. But if one cares not about this life in order to serve Christ, only then Will he secure life eternal.
No amount of earthly gain can ever make up for the unutterable loss of one's soul.
God never promised to bestow blessings on His rational creatures, while they persist in willful disobedience. Pardon and acceptance are promised freely to all believers; BUT NO MAN CAN BE SAVED who does not obey the command of God to repent, to believe in Christ, to separate from sin and the world, to choose self-denial and newness of life.
