The phrase, "Spiritual gifts", does not appear as such in the NT. It has gained common usage, though, in referring to what Scripture identifies as the God-granted empowerment for ministry on the part of believers.

These gifts are never given to believers that they might profit by them or that they might somehow use the gifts for themselves. They are given, as the apostle says, "to produce what is beneficial"  [1 Cor. 12:7]. This means that all Christians are ministers.

No church could function if everyone wanted to have only the roles of pastor, teacher, and evangelist.
